De Nieuwe Karseboom:

Aan de oostzijde van het Mariënburg lag tot aan de Tweede Wereldoorlog café-restaurant de 'Nieuwe Karseboom', ernaast lag de kegelzaal. In september 1944 brandde het complex geheel af. Bij de wederopbouw van het centrum werd hier Klein Mariënburg aangelegd, een korte straat die het Hertogplein met het Mariënburg moest gaan verbinden. Het pand uiterst rechts op de ansicht, gebouwd in 1929, bestaat nog steeds: hier is nu het Café De Foyer gevestigd.

The 'Nieuwe Karseboom':

Until the Second World War, restaurant 'De Nieuwe Karseboom' was located on the eastern side of the Mariënburg, and adjacent was the skittle alley (skittle in Dutch is kegel). In the fires of September 1944, this block of buildings was reduced to ashes. In the reconstruction of the cit centre, Klein Mariënburg was constructed here, a short street which was planned to connect the Hertogplein to the Mariënburg. The building on the far right of the postcard, built in 1929, is still standing today: this now houses the Café De Foyer.
