Barbarossaruïne of Sint-Maartenskapel:

Officieel heet deze ruïne de Sint-Maartenskapel. Het is een overblijfsel van de burcht die keizer Frederik I Barbarossa in 1155 op het Valkhof liet bouwen. De Sint-Maartenskapel moet vroeger een dubbelkerk in het kasteel zijn geweest.
De kapel werd, evenals de rest van de burcht, van tufsteen gebouwd. De zuiltjes, die de frontboog ondersteunen, zijn van Romeinse herkomst. Toen de burcht in 1796-1797 werd afgebroken, is de kapel met veel moeite gered.

Barbarossa Ruin or St. Maarten's Chapel:

This ruin is officially called the St. Maarten's Chapel. It is a relic of the castle which Emperor Frederic I Barbarossa built on the Valkhof in 1155. The St. Maarten's Chapel must have been a double church within the castle. The chapel was built out of tuff stone, like the rest of the castle. The pillars which support the front arch are of Roman origin. When the castle was broken down in 1796-1797, the chapel was preserved with great difficulty.
